Mayweather: on the Boxing Ring

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is an American professional boxer and entitled as a five – division world champion where he has won seven world titles as well as the lineal championship in three different weight classes. Winning the award in 1998 and 2007 as the “Fighter of the Ring” by The Ring and by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) in 2007, Mayweather is undeniably a true and indestructible boxer that stands in the test of time.


Canceled Arrangements with Manny Pacquiao
Manny Pacquiao, a seven-division world champion had reportedly granted a fight to Mayweather on March 13, 2010 for a split of $ 50 million with the promoters of both camp already agreed. Nevertheless, the fight was postponed du to an argument regarding the Olympic Drug Tests.


To push the fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer and Top rank Chief Bob Arum tried to resolve the conflict.


On July 15, 2010, Mayweather was given until Friday midnight to sign the fight but after two days of waiting, Arum publicized that the deal for a November 13 2010 fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao was not accomplished. 

Chasing for the Nullified Fight
Numerous potential opponents have been pulled up for Mayweather but he keeps on reserving his fight with Pacquiao which boxing fans have been requesting since it became the open biggest fight in sport in 2009.


For the past two weeks, Mayweather has been calling Pacquiao directly in the Philippines beseeching him to fight him on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao affirmed in an interview with a Filipino television network that he and Mayweather spoke about preparing the fight and bringing it off on a 50-50 purse split.


However, Arum voiced out tht he wants to make the fight but has given various presumed reasons why it can’t be bring for May 5. He has recommended the date off May 26 for the construction of a temporary stadium near the Las Vegas strip to accommodate as many as 40,000 audiences which is more than double the capacity of the MGM Grand Garden Arena.


Currently, Mayweather is the WBC welterweight champion and rated as the best pound for pound boxer in the world by most sporting news and boxing websites.


If the proposed showdown takes place, it will earmark as the richest fight in history of boxing since both of them are considered as the two best fighters in the globe.
