All About BLOG (A Survey Regarding Blogging)

To be acquainted with what other people’s thoughts and ideas regarding the skyrocketing level of blogging, a survey was conducted through a set of questionnaire.

The line of questions were generated to be also familiar if there are individuals who are still clueless regarding the matter.

Profile
Out of one-hundred respondents (100) female has taken seventy-four (74) total spot while the male filled up the twenty-six (26) spot.

Respondents who were in the age bracket of 10-15 was only one while the 16-20 garnered the most with ninety-five individuals and the last but not the least, the 1-25 bracket comprises of four respondents. All of the respondents are single and on their college level.

Research Questions
Ninety-three (93) respondents claimed that they were all familiar with blogging while only seven (7) candidly answered that they were not aware of it.

Through selecting notable definition of blogging by those who were familiar with it, listed below are some given descriptions that would clearly define what blog is:

- Blog is a way of expressing ideas and views through the internet.

- Blog is a place where you pour out your feelings, emotions or simply for documentation of your life

- A medium of modified social networking through an article-like interface.

- A website containing a diary/ journal about a particular subject.

- Blog is an online means of writing articles to get across to the online audiences/readers.

- Blog is an avenue where you can write anything under the sun.

- Blog is a medium to express one’s self

When asked if what blog site/social networking site that respondents found more applicable in using, the facebook gathered the total votes of seventy-eight (78) which is the highest followed by twitter with fifty (50) votes and on the third rank is the blogger with thirty – nine (39) votes chased by tumblr with thirty (30) votes and the word press who got eleven (11) votes showed that people were not much aware of using it.

When asked if what blog site / social networking site that respondents found more interesting to read, for the second time, facebook gained seventy-six (76) votes, followed again by twitter with forty-three (43) votes while blogger secured it’s third place with thirty-six (36) votes, tumblr with thirty-three (33) votes and word press with twenty-two (22) votes.

Under the classification on what age does respondents started to read blogs, the age bracket of 10-15 years of age filled the fifty-one (51) respondents while the age bracket of 16-20 was answered by forty-two (42) respondents.

Under the category on what age does respondents started to write blogs, the age bracket of 10-15 years of age garnered a total of twenty-eight (28) respondents while the age bracket of 16-20 hoarded fifty-two (52), and the last bracket, 21-25 accumulated only one (1) respondent.

Researchers were also asked if how often do they read blogs. The results showed that readers who were able to read blogs daily comprises of seventeen (17) respondents, while readers who were able to read blogs weekly has been filled up by forty-eight (48) respondents and readers who were able to read blogs has been occupied by sixteen (16) respondents.

Researchers were also asked if how often do they write blogs. The outcome revealed that bloggers who are able to post blogs online daily were seven (7) respondents, bloggers who were able to post blogs online were thirty-nine (39) and a total of twenty (20) respondents claimed that they can only post blogs on monthly basis.

When asked if blogging was really their interest, a total of forty-five (45) respondents affiemed that it was really entertaining while a total of fifty-five (55) respondents answered that it does not suit their interest.

Current events, personalities, food, animals and places were the given category for those who are interested and not much on blogging depending on what topic they were more inclined to.

For those people who found blogging an interesting one, according to them, current events with twenty-three (23) votes is the most interesting field they often discussed with followed by personalities with eighteen (18) votes. However, the places category covered the third place with fifteen (15) votes and on the fourth rank, the food gathered eight (8) votes and on the last rank, animals garnered only one (1) vote.

However, those people who do not found blogging an interesting and exciting one were also asked if what particular topic they were interested. The result exhibited that for the second time around, the current events section covered a total of twenty –nine (29) votes, followed by food on the second rank with twenty one (21) votes, on the third place was the personalities with seventeen (17) votes, the fourth place, which is places with fourteen (14) votes and the animals with a total of five (5) votes.

The respondents were also requested to tell if what tempted them to blog. And some of the valuable answers were as follows:

When asked if what blog site they prefer the most, the abundantly designed or simple, most of the respondents affirmed that simple blogs are more appropriate and convenient to use compared to elegantly designed blog site.

And lastly, the survey questionnaire showed that some of the respondents considered blogging as a career because you can gain profit from it and it is another way / means of earning money.

Pasig City: Say NO to plastic!

20 years before a single plastic can totally be dissolved. Imagine, when all the plastics we consumed will be vanished? Every day, people used plastic and each day, it will just add to the number of plastics needed to be gone. Consequently, plastics will never be disappeared or at least lessen if we will not find a way on how we will minimize the use of these anti-environment materials.

Burning is not the solution
Well, there’s one way on how these plastics will be melted – through burning. Ooopss! It’s a no, no to put all the plastics together and put some fire to solve our problem in these plastics. There is what we called global warming (the reason why we are experiencing today an abnormal condition in climate) and one of its causes is the burning of some materials including plastics.

The day when the normal Saturday of Pasigueños became unforgettable and miserable as the typhoon Ondoy attacked the city. Many of the barangays were ruined because of the unexpected flood brought by the continuous rainfall of the typhoon.

January 4, 2012.
In the National Book store, Ever Ortigas, Pasig City, a customer asked the cashier if she can put all the things she brought in a plastic and the cashier replied, “Maam, simula pa po nung January 1 ngayong taon iniiwasan na pong gumamit ng plastic dito sa atin. May memo po na binigay at city ordinance po yan na ‘wag ng gumamit ng plastic.”

According to some vendors in the city, the first offense for those who will be caught in using plastic is a fine of 500 pesos. To avoid this, they use brown packaging or newspapers for their goods.

Today, Pasig is not totally a plastic-free city because there are some products that still need to put in plastic like meat, fish, oil, rice, etc.

It is a good start for Pasig City as it welcomed the year of the water dragon with a pro-environment campaign. In using and carrying goods through brown packs is obviously hassle but the main thing is we are starting to show our concern in the environment.

Micahel V.

Baptized with the name of Beethoven Bunagan on December 17 1969 at Pandacan Manila, Michael V did not foresee his self as one of the leading and best comedian of the Philippine television perhaps because of his shy-type personality and pessismistic outlook towards life.

Michael V is also known as “ Bitoy” or “Toybits”. Vice Ganda

Vice Ganda was born on March 31, 1976 at Jose Abad Santos St. in Manugit, Tondo Manila in a quite big family. His father was murdered when he was young provoking his mother to leave them to work as a caregiver abroad. He achieved his college education at Far Eastern University (FEU) studying Political Science.

At 19, Vice was already engaged in writing and performing his stand-up comic routines in comedy bars in Ermita, Manila. 

He uses the comedy of a typical “Pinoy” lifestyle and situational irony pertaining to Filipino culture, behavior and human sexuality.

He is also the firsy gay endorser for a major product in the Philippines which is the Globe Telecom.

Career

Vice found his way as an eminent comedian, host, actor and recording artist in the Philippine scene. In 2009, he became a regular host/judge on ABS-CBN’s talent show Showtime. He is currently hosting his own Sunday talk show Gandang Gabi Vice!

Vice starred in minor roles until in 2009, he appeared along with Vilma Santos and John Llyod Cruz in the film In My Life. A year later, he starred in a comedy film, a remake of Petrang Kabayo that became a big hit. The following year, Vice starred in Praybeyt Benjamin with Drek Ramsay as his love interest. The film became the first local film to reach P 300 million in ticket sales.

Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr.

Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr. was born on July 25, 1928 at P. Herrera St. (Calle Padre Herrera) in Tondo Manila. His father, Melencio Espinosa-Quizon was a ship mechanic and his mother, Salud Vera Quizon was a home-based tailor.

He is known by his screen name” Dolphy” who appeared in a number of works on stage, radio, television and movies.

His exposure to movies started while he worked inside the theater selling peanuts, watermelon seeds and jicama snacks where he could also watch unlimited movies for free.

Career

Dolphy was practically jobless after leaving Sampaguita. Eugenio “Geny” Lopez Jr. got him into television on Channel 3, but his first TV show “Buhay Artista” was with ABS-CBN, a concept by Geny Lopez and Ading Fernando.

He also started doing movies for independent studios such as LEA Productions, Balatbat Productions, Filipinas Productions, Zultana Productions and Fernando Poe Jr.’s D Lanor Productions while on television. He starred on two of his movies, Captain Barbell and Daigdig ng Fantasia with Nova Villa in 1964.

Martina Aileen de las Alas

Delas Alas is the daughter of Engr Rosendo delas Alas and was adopted by her aunt Justa delas Alas. In 1985, she earned a Mass Communication degree from Far Eastern University. She was married to Miguel Vera and had two children. Before pursuing her acting career, she worked as a saleslady in a department store and also as a stand-up comic in comedy bars along Metro Manila.

Career

Delas Alas has done several movies including the blockbuster hit “Ang Tanging Ina” where she first gained a nationwide recognitio. It was soon followed by more comedy films like Volta, which was followed by a TV series. She was one of the lead hosts of a noon time television show MTB: Ang Saya-Saya. She also played an important role in the TV remake of Bituing Walang Ningning as Dorina’s mother.

Vic and Joey

Marivic Castelo “Vic” Sotto

Sotto was born on April 28, 1954. His grandfather, Vicente Sotto has Spanish ancestry. He was educated at Colegio de San Juan de Letran. 

Career

He is an actor, television show host, comedian and a film producer working for GMA Network and stars on a noon-time variety show Eat Bulaga.

He started his career as a folk singer and guitarist. Under the IBC TV Network, he then joined his brothers Tito and Val in a gag show “Ok Lang” back in the early 1970s where he also fortunately met another comedian Joey de Leon. De leon invited them and the trio (Tito, Vic & Joey) was created. They were cast in Iskul Bukol, Eat Bulaga, TVJ: Television’s Jesters and Rock and Roll 2000.

He has done sitcoms and TV shows under the three biggest networks in the last three decades. Including ABS-CBN, GMA Network and TV5 but he has mostly done shows for the GMA.

Jose Maria Ramos de Leon

De leon was born on October 14, 1946 to a Filipino Spanish descent of Jose Seoane de Leon and Emma Manahan Ramos. His paternal grandfather was the first mayor of Malolos Bulacan. His parents divorced at a young age. And at the age of three, his father moved to Madrid Spain.

Career
Before entering the showbiz industry, De leon earned his architecture degree from the National University in Manila. He was also a disc jockey (DJ) for 12 radio stations when he was starting out.

He then became a member of the comedy trio, Tito, Vic & Joey that has made several comedy movies and TV shows. He has also penned songs including Ipagatawad Mo, Awitin Mo, Isasayaw KO, Boyfriend kong Baduy and Iskul Bukol. 

Eugene Domingo

Domingo was born on July 23, 1971. She started her career by enrolling in the University of the Philippines Theater Arts Program and apprecenting as an actress, production and stage management staff under the university’s theater company Dulaang UP. The Best Supproting actress award in the Gawad Tanglaw was given to her by playing a role in the film “Foster Child”.

Jose and Wally

Ariel Pagtalonia Manalo or Jose Manalo was born on February 12, 1966 in Manila. He began his TV appearance in Valiente as one of the supporting characters. Then, he used his screen name Jose Manalo and first appeared in Eat Bulaga in 2002 where he became a regular co-host. Wally Bayola, his long time friend also entered the show business and they became a comic duo. 

After his TV show Boyoyong on TV5 that was formerly aired in 1992, Manalo reportedly returned to TV5 for his former sitcom, “ My Darling Aswang” with his buddy Vic Sotto and Ritchie reyes in 2010.

Marietta Subong

Subong was born on August 27 1972. Her portrayal in the sitcom “Aalog-Alog” earned her as the Best Comedy Actress from the Philippine Movie Press Club and the Best Female Comedian award from the People’s Choice Awards. 

She started in a reality show in ABS-CBN and appeared in drama and sitcoms of the network. She was not only a comedian, but also an actress, TV host, singer, impersonator and salon co-owner.

The variety show “Wowowee” and “Pilipinas Win na Win” and Happy Yipee Yehey honed her talent in hosting. She is also known for impersonating actresses such as Annabelle Rama, Dionisia Pacquiao and Marlene Aguilar. 

Tween-age Trend: GMA and ABS-CBN Teenage Stars Faceoff

From the international up to the local scene, teenage stars truly predominates much exposures on screen. With young billionaire-earning stars like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, singing icons like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus, youth were inspired to show off their skills for a showbiz break.

Truly, some of the brightest names in the local show business started out young while becoming a part of a teen oriented show or drama. Back then, two popular teen drama shows battles for popularity and viewership – the GMA’s “Gimik” and the ABS-CBN’s “T.G.I.S”. 

T.G.I.S and Gimik

 T.G.I.S. revolves around a clique of friends living in a fictional village presumably located somewhere in Quezon City. The show deals with the various episodes concerning adolescent life. Meanwhile, Gimik, which was originally created as part of ABS-CBN’s 40th Anniversary, was patterned after a popular US show.

After the shows went off the air in 1999, celebrities which are part of the drama parted of ways and try to find their luck in show business.  Only a few were able to stand out and shone more. T.G.I.S successful products Dingdong Dantes and Anne Curtis still remain visible up to this day. On the other hand, Gimik stars Diether Ocampo, Dominic Ochoa, and John Lloyd Cruz were able maintain their popularity and exposures on screen. 

Tween Hearts and Growing Up

The Gimik and TGIS rivalry before were seemingly revived by the debut of new young and fresh faces from both networks. Now, we can see the GMA’s Tween Hearts starring Joshua Dionisio, Barbie Forteza, Jhake Vargas and Bea Binene competing with the ABS-CBN’s Growing Up featuring the top billed Mara Clara stars Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes.

Both shows like their predecessors goes with the same plot and same airing slot – reason for an endless comparison of the main cast from one another. Which of them is the best, the hottest or the most popular? The same questions asked one-and-a-half decade ago.

Matter of fact, we can’t expect much from teen artists because they are too young to deliver convincing performances. But their image as young stars can work wonders. At the very least, it serves as their ticket to more assignments once they are no longer teenagers. There are so many more opportunities for stardom, they just only have to make sure that they continuously hone their skills like what the brightest stars did when they were still part of teen dramas.

It is a rare opportunity to have interviewed such one of the influential Filipino bloggers in today’s cloud. Now, the Online Ink brings you our personal conversations and chats with Mr. Azrael Coladilla.

Who is Azrael Coladilla?

 Now consider as an active multimedia blogger and social media monster, Azrael finished BS Math and Computer Science in the Far Eastern University (an irony isn’t it?). He is the blogger behind the “Azrael’s Merryland” which reigns in 4^th rank by the Google Pages while garnering over 2 million page reviews and a thousand of subscribers. Awarded as the 2009 Most Influential Blogger for Luzon, Philippines awarded by Globe Telecom and The Philippine Blog Awards, he’s a full time blogger, event’s organizer, social media manager and digital marketing consultant. Also, he is the founder of The Manila Bloggers Network, a community of active bloggers in Manila and nearby cities.

How did Azrael’s Merryland started?

The blog debuted through Azrael’s friends and colleagues. At first he started to search a platform for website that would provide an easy access to online publishing. Since 1999, he does blogging in yahoo groups which already gather thousands of subscribers. And as his friends introduce him the “Blogger”, he finds it advantageous and at the same time fits his ideal platform for a website.

At that time, he shared to us how blogging helps to relieve his sentiments towards relationship. He tends to share his thoughts while engaging open conversations to his readers.

Is blogging his interest? What inspires him to do blogging?

It had been quite an interest at first but later on develops. Here, I can express my feelings and thoughts freely and at ease. Blogging also allowed me to discover skills such photography, recording and editing audio and videos and a lot more.

My readers are the deep rooted reason behind my blog. Actually, they’ve kept on asking more posts which drives me to do more. It had been a routine to check and post in my blog regularly while having weekly online chats with my friends and readers.

What does blogging did in his life?

You tend to know more the personality of a person through his blog. It’s like a journal of everyday activities that bloggers would like to share about. Though it could quite be considered as stalking, it somehow creates interests to other people’s way of life. I’ve already met a lot of bloggers in other countries, make friends with them and have chats on lots of stuff. It’s just like today’s Facebook age wherein you visit various accounts and profiles. Back then, we visit blogs.

Blogging let me discovered lots of skills. From photography, while enhancing my PR skills and most of all it makes me a responsible and liable writer for anything that I’ve post publicly. Some may consider blogging as just a hobby, that’s true at first. But later on you would discover that hobby could open up chances for a career. I have lots of friends that are previously engaged in food blogging now a restaurant owner, a fashion blogger turned to a fashion designer and lots of professional photographers. Learning never stops and blogging provide me this.

Given your numerous achievements in life, how would you define success?

Success is based on experience, learning and personal concept of dreams. You must have targeted goals to be pursued in order to succeed in life. I still can’t consider myself as a successful person but this definition truly reflects me.

“Happiness”- that’s what people looking for. They have different meanings to impart when they ask to define it.

“Happiness”- try to type this on Microsoft Word, right click and let the arrow highlight synonyms, then words will come out: contentment,  pleasure, gladness, cheerfulness, joy, glee, blissful and delight. That’s how the computer defines happiness.

“Happiness” – this is what a person named Vince Golangco had.

Having a glimpse on his portfolio, Vince have been into different fields like blogging, writing, TV and Radio hosting, modeling, etc. Aside from those facts, there are other things people should know about him. When Vince was younger, he visited Philippines and able to learn to speak in Filipino a little bit and he moved here about two years ago just for a vacation but started to have fun in the country, that’s why he decided to stay.

Having fun. Vince is a natural story teller who would love to share whatever he is doing and let his friends know about his enjoyment. His party stories marked the beginning of a successful website, Vince’s friends love the way he shared his activities and thanks to the saying, “wheninrome, do what the Romans do”, wheninmanila.com was created.

wheninmanila.com. It was the end of year 2009 when this site was started and eventually in the year 2010, wheninmanila.com grabbed the award as the no.1 emerging influential blog. Check out this site, discover various activities happening in manila and realize that it’s more fun in the Philippines. Vince Golangco has 80 writers and still growing who were send to lots of destinations and let the people in the internet realm to somehow experience as well, the beauty of a certain place they went to.

Expressing yourself. Vince Golangco found writing as a best way to express himself. Because of his website, he was able to attend several events and meet cool people. Sharing served as Vince’s inspiration in everything he does. Definitely, Vince is Vince, he just be who really he is and enjoy what he really love to do.

a DJ on the spot.  Vince never expected to be a DJ but when DJ Angel of Mellow 94.7 introduced radio, and the station hired him on the spot and he worked on the spot as well, he became a DJ. This just happened for one reason, “Makwento ako”, he said.   Right now, Vince likes to do more nothing specific except for TV hosting. He would love to try that again if opportunity comes. 

Just write, write what you enjoy, you write every day. Not everybody has a chance to have a career in online but everybody has a right to dream that someday, whatever he posted will gain attention from the people. That’s why Vince Golangco wanted to keep in every blogger’s mind to, “keep updating”.

“Never take no as an answer”.  Information is one-click away. If you don’t know a particular thing, research it because everything is online. The secret to whatever and whoever Vince now is he did not turn down opportunities. He keeps on finding a way if he wants something and the universe will help to find the answer.

“Success”- that’s what people wishing and hoping for. Everyone has his own way to achieve this.

“Success”- According to Mr. Webster, it is the achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted, the gaining of fame or prosperity and the extent of such gain.

“Success”- is preparation meeting opportunity. It means you don’t know when an opportunity will come so keep preparing. So let’s say, you want to be a great writer, every day, you write a little, you read about writing, you read about journalism, you read about great journalists in the past, because one day, all of a sudden, you don’t know, accidentally, maybe you’re in the elevator with the editor-in-chief of CNN or the boss of CNN, accident, you tell him, oh, I’m a journalist and she said, we’re looking for a journalist now and we’re opening and  she says to you, Where you have written before? And you said, I’ve not written before coz you don’t prepare coz you never contributed to a magazine, you never turned into newspapers, you don’t turned articles in newspapers, you never tried, you never prepared. So, you just keep preparing and you never know when the opportunity comes, so that’s what a success is, you keep preparing and when the opportunity comes and you’re prepared, you will be successful.– Vince Golangco.
